PT Eurokars Motors Indonesia (EMI) hopes to produce the Mazda CX-5 SUV locally. This assembly is also expected to be able to reduce the selling price of one of the best-selling SUVs in Indonesia.
Managing Director of PT EMI Ricky Thio said that the company was studying with partners to do local assembly of the CX-5. “We are still conducting studies for all the preparations,” said Ricky during a visit to the Tempo editorial office, Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Ricky added that Mazda’s product quality standards were very high. “It is necessary to carry out further studies to ensure that the cars assembled in Indonesia will be suitable. From the Mazda headquarters, they have often visited Indonesia.”
Ricky hopes that the local assembly of the CX-5 can be carried out soon in Indonesia. “We really want it as soon as possible and the fastest this year, so that the Mazda CX-5 can be more affordable.”
The Mazda CX-5 offered in Indonesia is presented with Elite options at a price of Rp. 597.7 million and the Kuro type is 607.7 million, already on the road in Jakarta.
The New Mazda CX-5 is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Skyactiv-G engine that produces 190 HP of power and 252 Nm of torque which is channeled through a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive transmission.
This engine is also equipped with a Cylinder Deactivation feature, which allows the engine to operate with only 2 cylinders to provide fuel efficiency.
Playing in the premium SUV class, the Mazda CX-5 is equipped with a complete set of safety features such as the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) which helps the driver maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front when this feature is activated.
The Mazda CX-5 is one of the best-selling CBU versions of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Indonesia throughout 2022. From Gaikindo data, the CX-5 has recorded sales of 1,654 units.
